The Best Things To Do in Austin

Austin Murals

If you know us, you know we’ve spent countless weekends (and week days for that matter) exploring the city of Austin. Scoping out murals, watching Texas football games, eating at some of the best restaurants in Austin…The whole nine yards…. Austin is just our city. And not to mention, a great city to spend a weekend in! We’re sharing a list of our favorite things to do in Austin, for the perfect weekend getaway.

Things To Do in Austin

Barton Springs Pool

Austin can get hot… Like really hot. It is Texas, after-all! Barton Springs is the perfect place to chill out after a long day of exploring Austin in the Texas heat. Barton Springs is a natural spring fed outdoor pool right in the middle of the city and the water stays at a glorious 70 degrees, year round. If swimming just isn’t your thing, there’s also a massive grassy hill overlooking to the pool that is perfect for relaxing and getting some sun!

Rowing Dock

SUP? No, not literally. SUP stands for stand up paddle board and it has quickly become one of our favorite activities to do on a weekend in Austin. Rowing Dock is our go-to place for renting your SUPs (or kayaks and canoes) during a weekend getaway and is located right in the heart of the city on Lady Bird Lake. Whether you want to Kayak or SUP, visiting Rowing Dock is the perfect activity for a weekend in Austin.

State Capitol

There’s just something so cool about walking around the State’s capital! Take in the breathtaking views from inside or just explore the grounds. Regardless of which you choose, you will not be disappointed.

Mural Hunting

If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we love to find awesome murals in different cities. Austin has one of the biggest collections of murals in any city we have ever traveled to. If you love murals as much as we do and want the low down on where they are, you have to check out our 17 awesome murals post!

6th Street

Speaking of drinking, Austin is home to some of the best bars. Right smack in the middle of Austin is historic 6th Street. 6th is one of Austin’s main entertainment districts and it is the most popular spots for bars and drinking. No trip to Austin, no matter how long, is complete without time spent on 6th. Maggie Mae’s, The Blind Pig Pub, Midnight Cowboy, and The Jackalope are some our favorites for a night out.

Rainey Street

If hanging out on “Dirty 6th” isn’t really your scene, I’d definitely suggest heading over to Rainey Street. This strip of bars is geared more towards the craft cocktail crowd and most of the bars are in old houses that have been redone.

Visit Uncommon Objects

If browsing for antiques or random old stuff is your thing, this is the spot for you. Uncommon Objects is tucked in South Austin and will provide you with hours of antique hunting! It’s the perfect activity for a rainy day in Austin or the average hot-as-hell day, too!
Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway to Austin or have a well curated weekend getaway, Austin is filled with tons of fun things to do!
