6. Small Chocolate or Other Candy

What you’ll need:
2+ Baskets of any kind
A few herbs (seeds or already grown)
Potting soil
Strong rope
Heavy duty scissors
Nails/screws & hammer

Instructions:
1. First, you’ll want to measure your rope out. This is easily the most difficult part. You will need to double the rope over, to ensure it can hold whatever you tie it to. You will also need to make sure both sides of the baskets have the same amount of spacing/rope between them.
2. Lay thin gardening fabric on the bottom of your baskets. This will help with drainage and also with soil erosion.
3. Fill baskets 1/3 of the way full with potting soil. I like to use a potting soil that has an organic plant fertilizer already mixed in.  You want to make sure you don’t fill it too high, because you’ll need plenty of room for your herbs.
4. Section out your herbs. Make sure you pairs herbs together that can complement each others growing process. Figure out how many herbs can go in each of the hanging herb garden baskets and get ready to plant!
5. Start adding plants to each basket. Remember to fill potting soil in around them as you go, and pack the soil.
5. Water yo plants! Of course, plants need water, duh. Do this before you hang them for the first time so they can have some time to absorb all the water before it begins to drain.
6. Decide on a place to hang your DIY hanging herb garden, and measure out at least two screws to fasten them to your main surface. We used two heavy duty screws, just to be sure there was no movement.
7. Hang your DIY herb garden and enjoy!

If there is one thing I know, it’s that just about everyone loves fall. I mean, cooler temps, darker colors, sweaters and pumpkins. All. Of. The. Pumpkins. Pumpkin decorations, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, pumpkin facials, everything has something to do with pumpkins. I’m no exception to the rule when it comes to the love of pumpkins. They are everywhere in my life. I always get just a little bit excited when I see all of the beautiful fall decor items go up at craft and home stores.

1. Fill empty space. As you saw in the Home Decor on a Budget post, and last years fall decor share, we have a giant clock from Magnolia Market, which has been above our couch ever since we moved in to our townhouse. Initially, we planned to have a couple large frames and a fall banner above the mantle, but after trying a few different pieces above it, the clock was what looked the best. You have to think about shapes. Everything else on this wall was already square, so adding something circular gave it more dimension!

2. Color! Silly thing right? Fall is the time when there are so many wonderful warm colors. But it’s often hard to find items of varying color, especially if you’re shopping at all the same places. Throw some deep reds in there with all of your shades of orange. Add a couple white pumpkins and some brown lanterns or firewood! Heck, go crazy! The more warm tones of varying color, the better.

3. Use pieces of varying height. I think this is a big one for me. It creates so much dimension and when you throw in different textures, it seriously rounds everything off. Fall is all about the warm tones, but you don’t want to keep using the exact same warm tone, because that would get a little boring.

1. Having a catch all is so important. There are so many random pieces of paper that float around my desk, I need to make sure I have a place to put anything that’s important. I use my cork board as a catch all because it’s eye level when sitting at my desk and it’s very convenient. 

2. Simple Calendar. If you can go through life without a calendar, I want to know your secret. I have to have something similar and easily accessible. I am always scribbling down new notes and new dates on mine, it just wouldn’t be feasible to have it stuck up on a wall where writing on it would be difficult. 

4. To-Do Lists! Having a to-do list is imperative to keeping things organized. If you don’t know what you need to be doing, how are you going to know how to organize it? Duh.

4. Add some height to your desk! Seriously, when there are three or four different levels for your eye to go to, things will look much cleaner. And double points if your dimension doubles as storage! 

5. One of the most important things for me is to have a great inspirational area! I love being able to look around my office when I’m having trouble figuring something out or have writers block and to see all of the pictures or decor. Wanting to keep all of that cute definitely helps me stay organized!

6. This one may sound a little silly, but the bigger your work space the less you’ll feel cluttered. I bought a HUGE desk when we moved in to our new home, and it has aided so much in the organization process. I don’t feel crammed in to a tiny space and it allows me to lay out all of my necessary materials all at one time!

1.Shop in strange places. I don’t mean go to the shady parts of town. I mean go in to stores you normally wouldn’t. If you are even remotely crafty, hit up the thrift store and grab some old run down frames and make a giant chalkboard with a super cute frame. Shopping in strange places means you aren’t getting the same old things over and over again! [DIY Chalk Paint Picture Frames]

2. Use aspects that don’t cost you any money. I think I got this one from Thomas mom. When we first started dating, she had GORGEOUS wine crates displayed, along with some fabulous looking wine bottles. Now, granted the wine bottles cost money, but the crates came along with the wine, but you get the idea. I love using wine corks as fillers and for crafts.

3. Make your surface decor interchangeable. Spending money on separate decor for every single season will get pricey. Other than Christmas and Thanksgiving, I keep all of my “base” decor almost the same. Timeless pieces like vases, frames and of course, furniture are these kind of pieces. I grabbed the spring is here banner and just added it to the surface of my giant DIY chalkboard, because as we all know, Spring in Texas doesn’t last long!

4. Shop the sales! Would you believe me if I told you I only buy picture frames if they’re on sale for over 45% off? Of course you would because I’m a saving machine, kidding! But seriously, have you ever walked down the clearance isle at TJ MAXX? Taken a peek at the Michael’s Ad? Hobby Lobby? Hemispheres? Restoration Hardware? There is ALWAYS frames on massive sale. Photos are a necessity in my home because reminiscing on fabulous memories is one of my favorite things to do, so why not have them displayed in cute frames that I didn’t spend a fortune on?!

5. Splurge on the big pieces. I mean literally and physically. That clock is as tall as me, and Thomas insisted on purchasing it, despite it’s hefty price. The good thing? This piece is very versatile and could probably go in just about any room of our home, AND it takes up a LOT of room. Bigger pieces= less other things needed to fill space. 6. Books! While Y’all Need This Book, from Texas Humor isn’t quite your average coffee table book, most coffee table books, take up room, while looking super cute. I know its cool to have the Vogue look book or the giant Chanel book, but those can be expensive. Grab a few large books or ultra chunky magazines from Target and your coffee table, or TV stand in my case, will look just as fabulous.

Materials: (all purchased from Dollas Tree for $1)
Grapevine wreath
2 bushels of flowers
1 Roll brown burlap ribbon
1 Roll colored burlap ribbon
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors

First, you’ll need to remove the flowers from the stems. This is super simple, just tug on the flower part itself and the two pieces will separate easily. You will want to make sure you have between 7-10 flowers for a wreath this size.

Next, you will bunch the two colors of burlap ribbon together and insert them between various stems of the grapevine wreath.

You have bunch the ribbon in to a “U” shape and pull it through the grapevine branches, make sure there is roughly 1/2 inch of ribbon pulled through the backside of the wreath, this will ensure that the loops will not move or be pulled out. In order 

Once you have completed the full circle of the wreath with the burlap ribbon, cut the ribbon with an excess amount of ribbon, because you will be pulling this part all the way though the wreath instead of making a loop.

Once you have completed the entire loop with the ribbon, I always recommend dabbing a little hot glue on the back of the wreath where the ribbon has been pulled through to ensure there is no movement with the ribbon

Lastly, you’ll add the flowers. Since you have removed these flowers from the stem, you will need to use hot glue to apply then. I usually place them in the spots where they look the best, but you can put them wherever you see fit. You could always leave the flowers on the stems and bunch them together.

Honestly, there is no excuse for not having an adorable wreath on your door or doors! I spent a total of $5 on this wreath, and used hot glue and scissors I already had. I’d love to see some of your cheap & easy DIY wreaths if you have any!

Supplies:
Various colors of tissue paper
Twine or rope
Scissors

Instructions:
Chose one color of tissue paper to start with, fold it in half “hamburger style” and then again “hotdog style.” You’ll then want to make cuts vertically up the tissue paper, but leaving about 1/4 inch margin before the crease. Pictured below

Once you have made all of the cuts, you will unfold your tissue paper. This can be tricky, so be gentle, after all, it is tissue paper.

 Once you have your piece of tissue paper laid out, you will want to begin rolling the tissue paper very tightly along the crease. You should have a 1/2 inch crease to work with. Pictured below

 Once you are finished rolling each piece, you will tie your twine or rope on to tissue paper. Once tied, twist the twisted part of the tissue paper together to form one junction around the rope. Pictured below

 Once you have the tassels secured to the rope, hand and enjoy! You can always add more tassels or other cute little trinkets!
