Makin’ it in the Motor City

Things to do in Detroit

This summer has been nothing short of amazing, we’ve traveled, we’ve spent time with family, and we’ve gone on lots of adventures.

One of the last trips we took this summer was to Detroit, Michigan. I can not tell you how many people asked “What the heck is there to see in Detroit?” And believe me, I thought the same thing. Thomas and I fought last summer about going to Detroit, because he was convinced there was seriously nothing to do there.
While, it is the home of rap legend Eminem, THE Eight Mile, and Motown, it is also home to my mom’s amazing BFF, Kim, and so much more!
We had such an amazing time in The Motor City, I just have to share some of our favorite spots.
1. The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House

60,000 square feet of gorgeousness. The home, built for Henry Ford’s son, was in pristine condition with (almost) all original hardware and accommodations that were there when Edsel and Eleanor Ford lived there.

We had an amazing time touring the property, and seeing how the Ford family lived.

2. Greektown

Greektown is an area of Metro Detroit, that is, well Greek! The Greektown casino is there, along with tons and tons of yummy Greek restaurants! We had dinner at Pegasus Taverna, and loved it. We all shared devoured a few orders of their Saganaki (cheese that’s been set on fire- *insert heart eye emojis here*), and my mouth is still watering thinking about it.  I JUST got T in to Greek food about a month before we went on this trip, so I was pumped that he was so excited about Greektown.

At night, on the weekends, the streets are blocked off by mounted officers and barricades and it’s one giant party! Our 4am flight didn’t have anything on us! We partied till the wee hours of the morning!
3. Gilbert’s Lodge

The Lodge as our peeps called it reminded me a little of Twin Peeks, minus the scantily clad ladies. The food was SO good. Thomas and I both had a burger, he with fries, and me with onion rings, and oh my God y’all, they were to die for. The Lodge is just outside of Detroit in St. Claire Shores.
4. Comerica Park

Did I mention this was a #TourOfTheBallparks trip? Well now yah know.  Comerica Park was and still is one of my favorite parks! There was SO much to do, and see, and eat, and ride, and, well, you get the picture.

Although it was a pretty toasty day, we had an awesome time.

This was actually the first ballpark we had been to with someone else! We were so glad Kim & Dave could join us.

5. Bad Brad’s

YOU GUYS! THIS IS PIG CANDY, AND I CAN NOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT ABOUT IT. IT is everything any bacon lover could ever dream of. It was perfectly candied bacon, served on a rack, nice and warm!

We took the advice of our Bad Brads regulars and got pulled pork, mac & cheese and a whole lot else! Bad Brads was absolutely fabulous, and I would totally go back in a heart beat!

Detroit was seriously a blast, and being able to enjoy a city with someone who has become like family to us, made it all the better!
I can’t thank Kim enough for hosting us in her home, and Dave for showing us some awesome places to eat. We may have come for the ballpark, but those two had us wishing we could stay a whole lot longer!

  1. An interesting discussion is worth comment. I do
think that you need to write more on this topic, it might not be
a taboo matter but typically people don’t speak about such topics.

  5. Hmm it seems like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m
still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for newbie blog
